Here's a really neat design (exterior only) for the B and B: http://www.libaudie.com/survey/index.htm. They have a Sketch-up 3D model. To see it you will need to install Google Sketchup, launch the application then open the file from its saved location on your hard disk.
Since there apparently are no plan books nor any plans on the Web for a 10,000 sq. ft., straw bale B and B, why not Google bed and breakfasts throughout the world, pick an exterior and probable floor plan and then go from there?
Here's a way to emulate individually set stone: ·
Build a section of wall using real field stone, much like the picture. This sample would be about 4' x 4' and have right and left edges which will mate when put to gather on the horizontal. (called the male mold) ·
Using a hard plastic, create a female mold off the male mold with mounting brackets. ·
Mount the mold on a vertical platform with an air bag (rubber truck inner tube) between the vertical platform and the mold. The connection will be very heavy duty scissors struts. ·
Mount the vertical platform on a high reach forklift but without the extended forks. ·
Apply about 1.25 inches of mud to the wall, move the forklift so that the mold is just touching the wet mud, then inflate the air bag.
We would also need a vibrator to settle the mold well into the mud.
We will also use a mold release,
Each cell which represents a stone/brick/else, would have a small hole through which compressed air would blow to release the mold from the mud. ·
After the mud dries and hardens, the "stones" would be stained with a penetrating soy-based stain and water repellent. We could hire some high school kids to apply different stains to different "stones" and even do faux painting to achieve a realistic imitation stone.
We would need several molds because of the different sizes which need molding. For instance, we could use rounded field stone on the corners and limestone lintels over the doors and windows.
Alternatively, we could use keystones as shown in the French B & B over the door of the middle building.
The main buildings of La Libaudie Bed and Breakfast have been rendered in Google Sketch-up 3D as shown below in a fixed positon. If you want to view the structure using Sketch-up then download and install the viewer program. Then go to the La Libaudie website and down load the file by saving the image appearing on the website’s “Survey our house” page to your hard drive, then opening the file using Sketch-up. You can use the rotation tool or your roller to move around the image.
